Samhain in Kenmare

When autumn settles over the mountains and the evenings grow darker, Kenmare gets ready to celebrate Samhain, the ancient Irish festival that marks the end of summer and the beginning of winter.

And in Kenmare, that means the return of our much loved Halloween Howl Parade.

Kenmare will come alive for Halloween from 26th October - 1st November, and at the heart of the celebrations will be the Halloween Howl Parade through the streets of Kenmare on Saturday, 31 October, bringing together families, local groups, fantastic costumes, music, colour and plenty of Halloween mischief.

But the Howl is just the beginning, with Halloween themed markets, pumpkin carving, face painting, music and entertainment, costumes, storytelling and activities for younger visitors as Kenmare's colourful streets and shopfronts take on a decidedly spooky appearance for Halloween.

And as darkness falls, who knows what you might encounter...

With fire, performance and some spectacular surprises, Halloween night in Kenmare promises to be one to remember.

From Samhain to Halloween

Halloween has its roots in the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, a time when people gathered to mark the changing of the seasons and the beginning of the darker half of the year.

This year, Kenmare's Samhain Festival will celebrate that connection, bringing together Irish tradition, storytelling, creativity, community and a little bit of magic.

Whether you come dressed as something spooky, spectacular or completely ridiculous, everyone is welcome to join the fun.
