Kenmare Chamber of Commerce welcomes the decision of Judge O Connor in Killarney District Court last Monday to approve the proposals from Kerry County Council to regulate the Market in Kenmare.
Street Trading in Kenmare has been unregulated and this has been problematic for all parties.
The Regulated Market will be based in Park Lane East. It will trade Mon to Sat and 29 Bays have been allocated
While the Chamber did not agree with all the Councils proposals (the Chamber would have wished for fewer Trading Bays and fewer Trading days) it does accept the Courts Decision as fair and balanced to all parties.
The Chamber did get certain amendments to Council proposals - one in particular is that a Trading Bay will revert to a parking place if not traded in by a certain time.
The Council have also agreed to appoint a Manager who will oversee the Market and the licensing and fees.
The Regulated Market will necessitate a new Traffic Management System. This and other enhancements to The Square , Pedestrian Crossings etc are planned for the New Year.
Coach set -down areas are incorporated in the Plans which should encourage more visitors to our Town.
Full details of the Regulations will be available in the Library.
We have always believed a properly regulated Market would be a benefit to all and an added attraction in Kenmare.
We now need to work together to make this a reality.
