  • Writing for Children & Teens(For Adult Writers).Facilitated by John W Sexton

    This will be a proactive three-hour workshop where participants will be taught real and practical methods of writing for children and teens, as well as essential plotting techniques. The plotting method covered in the workshop is designed not only for novel and short-story writing, but also for the creation of fictional series, one of the most common formats in children’s and YA publishing. The emphasis will be on fiction. John W. Sexton is a highly experienced children’s writer and created and wrote the children’s science fiction comedy drama The Ivory Tower for RTÉ radio, which ran to over one hundred half-hour episodes from 1999 to 2002, and gained a cult following amongst both children and adults. His novels based on this series, The Johnny Coffin Diaries and Johnny Coffin School-Dazed are both published by The O’Brien Press. €30

  • Annual Kenmare Trek

    A 10k fundraising trek will take place on Saturday 15th June in Kenmare to raise much needed funds for Brú Columbanus. The walk will go along the old Kenmare butter road from Galway’s Bridge and back to Kenmare. (Walkers will be transported to the start, at Galway’s bridge) The walk is organised with the support of Kenmare Walking Club. Brú Columbanus provides “home from home” accommodation for the relatives of seriously ill patients in Cork Hospitals and Hospice. Brú Columbanus consists of 26 en-suite family rooms with a supporting kitchen and lounges where families can meet other families who are in similar situations and can lend support and understanding to each other and draw on their shared experiences. “This is our 10th Annual Kenmare Trek and we are sure we will have a great turn out. It is always a fun day, an opportunity to get some exercise, have a chat and see some amazing views along the way- as well as support a fantastic cause” says Anne-Maria O’Connor, who has organised the walk.     To celebrate the French community that have chosen to make Kenmare their home, Kenmare town hosts a celebration of the French National day. A little bit of France comes to the Wild Atlantic Way! The whole community comes together to play some Pétanque and sample some great French inspired food and drink. The Square is transformed into a French quarter where an abundance of music, fun and food can be found. Anyone hoping to challenge the previous winners of the Kenmare Pétanque tournament can join in on 'training days' in the square on Saturday evenings throughout June and July. The Sheen Falls lodge will also host a tasting menu of French inspired food and accompanying wines.

    2019 will be the 17th annual running of The Lost Sheep. In that time it has gained a reputation, both nationally and internationally, as the toughest middle distance race on the Irish triathlon circuit. We are also proud to be part of a new race league in 2019. The Lost Sheep is one of nine select races in the new TRI MUNSTER LEAGUE. The race is open to all affiliated club members.     Kenmare Halloween Howl is a week long community festival which runs over the midterm break in October. It is a family event with something for everyone, meet Bessie the witch, visit the haunted house and the even more haunted forest! Carve a pumpkin or take part in some Halloween splatball fun. Take part in our famous Halloween parade on the 31st of October and enjoy some traditional games in the park afterwards. The Halloween Howl is a great event for all the family.
