Keep up to date with the local news in Kenmare

Kenmare Marketing and Event Group (KMEG) are delighted to have brought Quest Adventure Series to Kenmare. Sports Tourism is now being seen as the answer to increasing visitor numbers.

Sports Tourism refers to people who travel to spectate at an event and those who travel to participate in a sporting event. The World Tourism Organisation predicted 14% growth per annum for sport tourism compared to 5% growth for more traditional tourism categories.  Niall Gibbons of the Irish Hotel Federation has stated that Ireland must hone in on outdoor activities to entice visitors from Great Britain, which is the country’s biggest tourism market. Tourism numbers from Britain are falling and while the North American market has cushioned that fall this year it is unlikely to continue to do so. Research carried out by Tourism Ireland reveals that “what people are looking for is to be active in nature in order to spend time with friends and loved ones, and they’re looking to get away from it all.”  Fáilte Ireland’s CEO, Paul Kelly, has said that outdoor activities will play an important part in extending the travel season, especially because they’re not usually weather dependent.

Quest organisers, Elite Event Management, have been blown away by the welcome, good will and support they have received by the local community. The event had sold out by the beginning of January, with 1,500 people registered to take part and once again people all over social media discussing the event and Kenmare.

It is important to remember that it is through the hard work of the KMEG committee that this event along with the Ring of Beara Cycle, Halloween Howl etc. are brought to Kenmare, and while funds raised through membership pay a part time event and marketing co-ordinator the committee is made up of volunteers. So, this month we would like to thank all our members for their contributions, please support the businesses that are financing these events through their memberships, without them these events would not be possible.
