Kenmare Fundraiser

Keep up to date with the local news in Kenmare

Posted on: 06 Nov 2017

Kerry Co. Co has proposed bye-laws to regulate the Kenmare Market. Well run markets are a huge asset to a town, they attract customers and entice people to stop and browse. Unfortunately Kenmare Market is not well run! It has turned into a complete free for all that discourages people rather than encourages them to visit.
These bye-laws were challenged in court and on the 24th of July, Judge James O’Connor handed down his decision on the matter, Kenmare Chamber of Commerce was happy with the decision, no party got everything they looked for, but the decision did address some of the main concerns Kenmare Chamber of Commerce raised, including moving the market across the road. This decision is being appealed by Premier Munster Market Company Ltd, with a registered business address of Toons Bridge, Macroom, Co. Cork. As a result Kenmare Chamber of Commerce has no option but to also appeal in order to fight to achieve the best outcome for Kenmare Town as a whole.
As you will know, Court cases do not come cheap, so, KMEG, with the very generous support of Sheen Falls Lodge, are hosting a fundraiser on the night of Nov 17th to raise these funds. This Gala evening will consist of, drinks and canapes on arrival, a 5 course dinner, an auction and music and dancing to round off the evening. Tickets are €90 and due to seating are limited! You can contact us here in the office at marketing@kenmare.ie, or phone 064 6642615 or you can purchase your tickets at the White Room on Henry Street or Brooklane Hotel. We would ask anyone who can support this to buy a ticket (or 2!), donate a prize or simply make a cash donation.
