  • Granny's Suitcase - One Man Show

Granny's Suitcase- One Man Show At some stage during most of my concerts someone asks for me to sing an unaccompanied song. After the show people tell me I should be doing more of the traditional songs. People ask where do I find them, well the answer to that is simple, Granny's Suitcase. Granny was a song collector and she used to store them in a big old suitcase. And that is where this show has its roots and where I have mine. During the show I will be singing songs unaccompanied that I got from my family and from people who used to call to my Grandmothers house. I will be telling stories about these songs. This is a show for anyone interested in singing the traditional way, just the human voice.

  • French National Day

To celebrate French National Day, our French community and visitors we are arranging a small event on Saturday 14th July. The concept is to involve all businesses and restaurants in creating a French atmosphere in Kenmare for the day. We intend to create a French Quarter inKenmare involving French flags, bunting etc. We are asking all businesses especially shops, cafes, restaurants, pubs and hotels to embrace this concept and decorate their premises accordingly. As we know food is at the centre of the French culture and we would like to reflect this in our town on the day. We would like if your restaurants and/or food outlets could include a typical French dish on your menu on the given day. We are hoping to have a marquee from mid-day until around 4.30pm where all local food producers and chefs will provide amuse-bouche/canapés, food samples to be paired with French wine to be enjoyed at large communal tables, creating a street party atmosphere. Other activities on the day will include Pétanque (Boule’s game), children’s entertainment and activities. French music and costumes, mimes etc will feature on the day. We believe that this event will draw wonderful interest from the French/Irish community in Ireland and overseas and we intend to market it accordingly. We hope that you agree that this event, which is not a huge undertaking, will further enhance the visitor’s experience in Kenmare. Your commitment and help will make this happen. Please contact Helen at KMEG (marketing@kenmare.ie) with your suggestions and offers of participation. It is still early days and we’re just starting out on this venture so nothing is cast in stone!

  • The Man In The Woman's Shoes

The Man in the Woman's Shoes Double Bill- 'I Hear You and Rejoice' written and performed by Mikel Murfi will take place Friday(20th July) A one man show written and performed by Mikel Murfi. Set in October 1978 - Pope John Paul the First is not long dead, autumn is closing in and Pat Farnon has ‘some business’ to do in town. The Man In The Woman’s Shoes follows Pat Farnon as he walks to town and back again. It is a beautifully observed piece, utterly simple and Murfi’s “astonishing acting” has been widely praised. The Man In The Woman’s Shoes is funny, tender and at times downright daft. You might just fall in love with life again. The show was originally created with Sligo County Council Arts Service and The Hawk’s Well Theatre, Sligo as part of the Bealtaine Festival 2012. In 2015 it toured to Manhattan and Philadelphia as well as a sell out, three week run at the Abbey Theatre on the Peacock stage in Dublin. In 2016 it returned to NYC and also played to full houses over three weeks at the Tricycle Theatre in London.
